The Center for Appropriate Transport (CAT) people really plan to bring it on in Eugene this Friday, May 21! And as such they plan to give Arcata Mayor Bob Ornelas a worthy send off for his ride from there to Arcata NBG Day on May 28th . I mean get this, Zack Herigodt, their Eugene Bike Works (the CAT bike shop is one of six different hands on, community benefiting learning modules) director tells me that four different classes will be there! Kids from their multi-media, journalism, frame building and bike storage rack learning centers will be on hand to not only be part of the festivities, but the students will also be documenting the event with photo, film and journal entries!
And Mayor Bob tells us he's ready. Much disciplined in between his hectic schedule as a Mayor and businessman, he's been busy rolling a few hundred miles a week on his bike. On the beautiful, redwood tree lined roads they have up there. Often in the interminable fog they get up his way during this time of year. And he may not stop in Arcata. Bob may ride all the way to San Francisco NBG Day on June 11th!! WOW!!
We are waiting for reports and digital images of a successful first Seattle NBG Day and Portland goes off today!! Without Andrew Heckman :( Yesterday was his first day on his first job since the horrific accident he experienced on our very first Mayors' Ride in 2002. Go Andrew!!
